In a blend of drama and documentary, The Real Bicycle Thief pushes
the traditional boundaries of filmmaking. Set in Vancouver, British
Columbia, the film opens with the staged theft of a corporate courier’s
bicycle. In a sting-like operation, an actual thief is baited into action.
Tempted by an unlocked bike, the inevitable theft will be caught on
video tape from multiple angles. Once the bicycle has been stolen,
courier Steve Willis, (played by Geoff Rieck,) will embark on a
desperate search of the city, attempting to recover his stolen
property. While searching, he will encounter and interact with real
people. Hopefully, through some research, he will be able to confront
the thief, and salvage his bicycle.
